金1962年1月17日出生于加拿大多倫多，原名詹姆斯尤，是家庭中四個(gè)孩子中最小的一個(gè)。父親是個(gè)并不成功的音樂人，后經(jīng)商失利破產(chǎn)，一家人在貧困線上掙扎，靠打雜工糊口。少年時(shí)的金凱瑞只能放棄讀書而幫助家庭維持生活，現(xiàn)實(shí)使他看清了世態(tài)的炎涼。15歲時(shí)他在父親的幫助下在多倫多一家喜劇俱樂部表演，后來(lái)來(lái)到洛杉磯參加了“滑稽商店”演出。但很快他發(fā)現(xiàn)這種節(jié)目并不適合他，但是長(zhǎng)時(shí)間的表演充分發(fā)揮了他的喜劇才能，并使他能夠吸收各種各樣有用的技巧。
